Marisa Purcell was born in Australia in 1971 and has been exhibiting consistently since 1997.
Her work revolves around an investigation into dreams and free association. She draws from imagery relating to the intangible and to those spaces that can be described as neither realistic or abstract. This ‘in between’ space has its roots in the acceptance of the unknown characteristics of the creative experience. In this way, she embraces the mystery of painting as a vehicle to explore consciousness and her ancestry, both familial and those of her artistic forebears.
Following residencies in Switzerland, France and Australia, her work has been exhibited and collected internationally. She received a university scholarship to complete a Masters of Visual Arts at the University of Sydney. In 2007 she has exhibitions in Sydney, Brisbane, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Zurich.
