PAUL ROBINSON
RICK GILES
Transparent/Light
4 February 2010 - 27 February 2010

The Cat Street Gallery is proud to present Transparent/Light, a photography exhibition showcasing the work of Paul Robinson and Rick Giles. The show marks the second year anniversary of The Cat Street Gallery at 222 Hollywood Road and presents two engaging styles of contemporary photographic art.

LA based photographer Paul Robinson explores the aesthetic possibilities of multiple exposures and layered transparencies and creates painterly, textured images. Transparent/Light follows his very successful !rst solo show in Asia at The Cat Street Gallery in 2007, 'In Camera'. In his latest series, the artist prints his images on transparencies and slowly builds a layered work, often disrupting the drying ink to great visual effect. The series is varied: sometimes lyrical and mysterious, sometimes bold and striking. Robinson has shown in the U.S and Europe and collectors of his work include Sydney Pollack, Angela Missoni, Vivica A. Fox and Jennifer Tilly.

Born in Britain and based in New York., Rick Giles' work as both an artist and fashion photographer has seen him grace the pages of Vogue, The New Yorker, Esquire, GQ and The New York Times. In his recent body of work Giles creates striking abstract works drawing inspiration from the natural world. Shot over three seasons in the artist's rural home, each image is unique as the light and movement of the camera can never be exactly replicated. Like Robinson, Giles does not digitally manipulate any of the works, drawing attention to the abstract potential of the lens when it meets with the intangible forces of nature. Giles has shown at the National Portrait Gallery, London and had solo shows at Eleven Gallery in London.
