Garage Art Tour
One night only - 21 October 2010
at The Space, 210 Hollywood Road
Hong Kong

An Australian creative powerhouse, Steve Gorrow is one of the masterminds behind some of the best campaigns the fashion industry has ever seen. He has simultaneously created energized, vital imagery whilst elevating the status of ad campaigns to cultural commentaries and collectible artworks. Gorrow’s style, coined ‘Garage Art’ is intrinsically linked to popular culture and is infused with street art motifs. Iconic artists like Jean Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Kozik, Roy Lichtenstein and Raymond Pettibon fill Gorrow’s head and walls. His imagery navigates the world of fine art, fashion, music, pop, graphic novels, surfing, cinema, political propaganda, cyberspace and celebrity culture and does so with a self conscious revelry which is hard to resist. Despite their immediacy and visual impact, the playful images also reveal a darker socio-political undercurrent, drawing attention to social inequities, commercial pressures and the myth of the artist in the contemporary world.

Having grown up an avid surfer, Gorrow’s work for various surf and skate brands quickly caught the attention of Sydney’s youth. After founding the award winning ad agency The Revolution, Gorrow now resides as Chief Creative Art Director at Insight, a rapidly expanding heavyweight brand with unquestionable artistic merit. Despite his critical and professional successes, Gorrow remains unfazed and true to his passions: family, surfing and art.
