Adam Bricusse is best known for his magnificent enormous butterfly wings, Bricusse delves deeper into the carnival of his wild imagination with a slightly voyeuristic element to his art, inviting the viewer to look closer into the work, beyond the cracked layers of the painting. Drawing from his own wide-ranging experiences of excess and combustibility, the shapes, colours and symbols in his paintings are consistently energetic and fluid, often using animals, ancient samurais, pirates and gypsies as metaphors for his own feelings.
'Primal' features a new body of work that focuses on an animal orientated theme. “Animals represent the instincts and passions of men,” says Bricusse when describing the essence of the 'Primal' exhibition. Innocence and experience, sex, death and magic all lurk in his multi layered, rich opulent images. Peculiar yet humourous and occasionally sinister, they are glimpses into the life of the artist – a sensuous diary of appetites. Arresting and unsqueamish, this exhibition is like walking into an adult sweet shop.
Adam grew up between Europe and America. Later, he went to school in England and subsequently carried on his education at St Martin’s School of Art and The Ruskin School of Art, Oxford gaining a BFA and MA. He has been a practicing artist since then, having worked and exhibited extensively worldwide.
